Ling-Ling Chinese is a Language Learning Resource Collective created by Professor Ling-Ling Shih. This website was originally created for her Chinese classes, then expanded to a collection of authentic Chinese multimedia and educational resources to aid anyone who wishes to study the new language.

This website provides a wealth of teaching and learning resources, including:

  • Chinese lessons
  • Free Chinese Worksheets
  • Reading materials

  • Authentic materials
  • Teaching and Learning Tips

To learn Chinese well, expose yourself to Chinese as much as possible.  Make use of authentic materials.  Authentic materials  refer to the materials that are created, read, heard, and viewed by the native speakers and locals. Foreign language is a lot more fun to learn when learners go beyond the textbooks and use more authentic learning materials such as  News Magazine ArticlesRadio BroadcastTV DramasMoviesSongsChildren’s LiteraturePoems and Children Rhymes, and daily things native people encounter. I remember when I first started learning English during my junior high school years, what got me interested in learning English was not the rigid boring textbook-based teaching, but interesting contents I learned through a radio program called “Studio Classroom” (空中英语教室) taught by the American teacher Beng Menghui Laoshi 彭蒙惠老师). I was having fun learning all sorts of subjects while learning English.  In addition to having a more structural learning from classroom learning, Chinese learners must strive to find more opportunities to hear, speak, read, and write the language, and foreign language teachers must also try their best to create such opportunities for their students. This website is intended to serve this purpose.

  1. The movie Hero was directed by Zhang Yimou and released on August 27, 2004. Hero is filled with action and drama based on China’s history in 227 BC which a swordsman Jing Ke trained for ten years to kill The King Of Qin. This movie is about a man called Nameless whose parents was killed by King Of Qin soldiers. Nameless arrives at the kingdom of Qin to have a conversation with the king about the accomplishment of killing multiple criminals in different parts of China. The storytelling of Nameless’s journey has characters experiencing multiple problems that force them to use violence. In this film, characters are introduced as confused and filled with anger which gives an understandable viewpoint of the word unbalanced hero. The sequence of events seems to follow accurate information about china’s ancient cultural conflict and how people were affected. The fighting scene between Nameless and Sky only using music as a weapon is very interesting because they are fighting mentally not physically to focus on the war inside of them. Even though the scene did not have speech it spoke out messages and traits between Sky and Nameless fight. If this scene did have a conversation it would distract us from realizing the power of the mind with music and violence. This movie gives many different emotions throughout the film especially being in a different language because people overlook Chinese based on the patience to really learn the language. Nameless give an example that having no patience to learn from mistakes causes anger, but forgiveness will regain happiness and joy in life. This movie gave a lesson that we must forgive the people that hurt us to create a new beautiful world of unity.
Overall, this was in my opinion, the best movie that portrayed consequences and accomplishments in the kingdom of Qin. Also, the camera angles brought out emotional, romantic, and masculine authority during the movie. I totally recommend this movie if you like Chinese, action movies, romantic, or comedy.
