HW due on Monday: L12D2 character sheets (if you haven’t turned it in). Grammar sheets for L12D2 and L12D2 workbook package is also due (Please complete all sections except for the speaking exercise section.)

We will have either a take-home test or a in-class test on what we have covered so far since the beginning of the class, including all the supplementary packages I have given you. Please have a good review on the materials. Here is the focus:

  1. Able to request seats.
  2. Able to order Chinese food.
  3. able to describe dietary preference and restriction.
  4. able to ask for recommendation.
  5. able to rush the order.
  6. able to ask for bills and pay the bill and get changes.

Also review key grammar points and know how to make sentences with key grammatical patterns.

Assignment:Learn Chinese through Magazine Articles 读杂志学中文

Directions for this HW: (Please turn in the  following works to me on Friday)

  • Write each sentence in Chinese Characters, annotate the words with Pinyin on top of the words you don’t know how to pronounce, and translate each sentence line by line.
  • Create a vocabulary list for words you don’t understand. Please include Chinese characters, pinyin, and English meaning. You can put the vocabulary list after each sentence or after each paragraph or after the entire article.
  • You can do this assignment with a computer if you like.

On Friday: Oral  performance for dining out should be completed in class.

This HW is also due on Friday: Workbook L12 D1 Complete the rest of the HW (Writing Sections).

Today we went over the materials on Far East’s lesson on Dining at a Restaurant–Both dialogues. I encourage you to use the vocabulary, phrases, and sentences from these two dialogues for your oral performance for dining out.

Tomorrow be ready to perform in class for your oral performance. Try to memorize as much as possible.

After oral performance, we will go over the article on “要听太太的话”. Here is web page for Chinese-English Dictionaries. Click specifically on the following: Chinese-English Chengyu Dictionary–This dictionary allows you to look Chinese idioms and find out their English meaning.

  • Read and write, and translate this magazine article: 太太的话一定听
  • Note: Try to read the first time without any tools, underlining words you don’t know. It is important to learn to use the context to figure out the meaning of new vocabulary; see if you can figure out the meaning by using contextual clues. (Learn new words in context is the best way to learn a new vocabulary!)

We had a flashcard quiz on Unit4 Lesson 2. We did the exercise from p. 142 to p. 144. We also completed the flash card quiz on Unite 4 Lesson 2 today.

Dictation on Unite 4 Lesson 2 Vocabulary (all 40 vocabularies) on Wednesday.

HW due on Friday p. 142-147 (finish half for each section): Finish the package on Unite 4 lesson 2 (p. 142- 147)–> Complete in writing #1, 3, 5  for each section or half portion of each section (but learn to say ALL of them.) I encourage you to pair up with another classmate to have a chance to orally practice these exercise questions and complete this homework assignment together.
