The Chinese Language Project: Option 1: Biography/Autobiography, Option 2: Comedy

The Final Chinese Language Project: Option 1–Biography/Autobiography, Option 2–A Comedyt (in Word Document)

A Final Chinese Language Project:

Option 1: Biography/Autobriography

Option 2: Comedy/ Performance Skit

Due date: Show your video project or orally present it in class on or prior to the Final Exam Day.

Topic 1: Write a biography or autobiography in Chinese Characters.  In your biography, you can describe your pet, your family, your best friend, or a well-known Chinese figure. You can even describe an alien from another planet. For 10th graders, you can introduce his/her name, age, nationality, profession, spoken languages, favorite cuisines, favorite hobbies, the school he or she attended, etc. For Year 1 and Year 2 students, you should be able to describe also what their future aspirations, what their favorite subjects are and what skills they have. For Year Two, you can also describe how they look like, what season(s) they like, and use comparative phrases to describe him or her. The main objective is to use this project to demonstrate what you have learned so far in Chinese.

Topic 2: A comedy or a skit of any topic. This comedy may be completed by a group of 3 to 6 people. Your skit can be a comedy or an informative performance shedding light on Chinese culture as well. The main goal is to make the audience laugh.  It is crucial that you will provide a way that the audience who do not know Chinese can understand what is performed. If it is in a video format, provide English and Chinese subtitles.  Hopefully we can show your video in the 2020 Chinese New Year Celebration or your group can perform the comedy live.

Medium for this project:

  • Make a video with English and Chinese subtitles and provide the sound recording of your biography/autobiography for the video.
  • A slide show with a Chinese sentence in each slide and an illustration. Provide Chinese narration and light music in the background or present it in front of class
  • E-books
  • Big foldable poster, which can stand up on the flat surface, presented in class.
  • Use an app, Powtoon: Make your own animated videos and animated presentations for free. PowToon is a free tool that allows you to develop cool animated clips and animated presentations
  • ToonDoo is a great website where young people can create their own cartoons and comics by manipulating artwork, speech bubbles, text, and templates. It has a book-making feature where you can compile your created comics into a book. For more information, read about Making a Book at ToonDoo on my blog.
  • Padlet: Make beautiful boards, documents, and webpages that are easy to read and fun to contribute to. You can add photos, documents, web links, video, and music to make the text come alive.
  • Create your own – Storybird – Artful Storytelling.
