Due tomorrow: L5D2 Workbook–〉All sections should be done except for Part II. speaking exercise.

Make sure to have the Ohio RESA Student Release Form filled out for permission to videotape the class.

We announced the Scholarship Opportunities. Please apply as soon as possible. The deadline is approaching:

  1. NSLI-Y Application deadline: October 30th:National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLIY) ages 15-18 for summer 2019 or AY 19-20. NSLIY is a U.S. State Department foreign language program in which selected students study a language such as Chinese or Korean overseas for a summer, semester, or school year. See http://www.nsliforyouth.org/ for details.
  2. SPICE (Stanford Program on International and Cross-cultural Education) online courses for U.S. high school students for Spring 2019  Some scholarship funds are available to offset costs.   • Learned how to write each vocabulary using on-line dictionary.
  • Watched Lesson 5  D2 DVD dialogue and cultural note.
  • We finished L5D2 Part 1 A (p. 83). & Part II A speaking exercise

HW Due tomorrow (Tuesday)

  • We will have a dictation on L5D2 vocabulary at the beginning of the class.
  • HW due tomorrow (Tuesday): L5D2 character worksheet. Please write the vocabulary (e.g. 图书馆 túshūguǎn: library)  on the side.

Welcome back to school!  I was great to seeing you all yesterday.

It is my hope that this semester we will all commit ourselves to working hard together to have a meaningful and excellent learning experience.

Hopefully all of you will learn Chinese well and learn to speak Chinese fluently someday.

Create flash cards for handouts (on Modern Chinese Unit 1 Lesson 1 Vocabulary. Before class:

  1. HW: Create the set of vocabulary flash cards before attending class (10 points). Bring it to class.
  2. Review them and know how to 1) recognize the characters/vocabulary (Flash card quiz on Monday).
  3. Written Vocabulary quiz on Unit 1 Lesson 1 on Tuesday.
