Language Notes 12.1
去 qù + Verb
It means “to go to do an activity.” A location may also be added after 去 to specify the location where the activity takes place.

  1. Let’s go and eat Chinese food!
  2. Let’s eat at a French restaurant tonight!

Language Notes 12.2
太[adj.]了Tài 。。。le : This construction is an emphatic statement meaning “too…” or “so…”
The word 太 indicates an extraordinary quantity/intensity.

  1. This Japanese restaurant is so good!
  2. This bowl of soup is so tasty!
  3. The dumplings in this Chinese restaurant are so delicious!
  4. This school is so small. There are only 50 students there. (only: 只 Zhǐ)
  5. This drink is too expensive! (expensive 贵 guì)

Language Notes 12.3
好 + Verb =Adjective
When 好 is used before a verb, it provides the context that something is good and creates an adjective with the word. For example, 好+吃 (eat)translates literally to “Good to eat” which means “delicious”

  1. Steam buns are delicious.
  2. Watermelon vegetable Juice is very tasty!
  3. His older brother is very good-looking.

Language Notes 12.4 了 le
In lesson 11, we learned how to use 了 to express a change of state or a new situation. The 了 particle is also used to indicate that something has taken place or that an action has been completed. This 了can go at the end of a statement or after the verb. If a quantity is mentioned (e.g., “two glasses of coke 两杯可乐), then 了 must go after the verb.

  1. I drank five glasses of soda yesterday!
  2. I ate 5 apples!
  3. After eating dinner, you can eat ice cream!
